In early July we traveled deep into the mountains to attend my friend Rehman's wedding. We spent about eight days staying with his family in their village and participating in the festivities. His sister Nasira, Erin's good friend, was also there. We had a memorable trip!

Rehman is in the center; the other guy and I are his two "Oshams". Kind of like a best man/lifelong marriage counselor rolled into one. Basically Rehman and I now call each other "Osham" instead of our names, and his wife calls Erin and me "Mom" and "Dad" and we call her "Daughter." It was the first time a non-Wakhi person (let alone non-Muslim) had been an Osham for someone in this area, and it was definitely an honor.
